$299 Xbox 360? Old Xbox on its way out?

Microsoft VP and chief XNA architect J Allard told theStreet.com the Xbox
360 is "going to be in the neighborhood [of $300]." I've been worried
about a $399 or $499 machine, so a $299 launch price (like the first Xbox)
would great. I suppose $350 is still possible ...

Is the current Xbox on its way out? Could be. In a recent earnings call,
Xbox graphics chip manufacturer Nvidia said they won't be making any more
product after Q2 of this year (I'm assuming they're talking their fiscal
year, and I need to look up what that is for them). This could mean
Microsoft is sunsetting the current Xbox sooner than later, and we may see
$99 current-gen 'boxes to compete with the supposedly $99 PS2s this holiday
season. Interesting ...
